Dr Trisia Farrelly, senior lecturer in Social Anthropology at Massey University and a member of our Executive Committee, has has been appointed to a taskforce advising the United Nations Environmental Assembly Expert Group on marine plastic pollution.

Dr Farrelly is an environmental anthropologist and political ecologist who has long campaigned for the regulation of single-use plastic and is deeply committed to halting the production of unnecessary, non-recyclable, toxic plastics (such as glitter). She was invited to speak at the Klosters Forum in July 2018, which focused on oceans and plastic pollution, where she was invited to join a taskforce advising the United Nations on marine plastic pollution. Dr Farrelly is co-director of Massey University's Political Ecology Research Centre; co-founder and trustee of the New Zealand Product Stewardship Council; and co-founder of environmental lobby group, Carrying Our Future.
