Four anthropology graduate students have received Kākano Fund Awards in the first round for 2016. Congratulations to:

Molly George, PhD candidate at the University of Otago, who will present a paper based on her research at the British Society of Gerontology annual conference in Edinburgh in July 2016.

Veronica Adams, MA candidate at Victoria University of Wellington, who submitted her thesis on Friday 6 May.

Dylan Gaffney, MA candidate at the University of Otago, who is printing and binding copies of his thesis for his research participants in Papua New Guinea, and to donate to the University of PNG library.

Sharayane Bennett, MSocSci candidate at the University of Waikato, who will present a paper based on her research at the 7th Mobilities Symposium at Massey University's Albany campus in June 2016.

Established in 1985 by funds gifted by Dame Joan Metge, the Kākano Fund is primarily for Masters students majoring in social and cultural anthropology who are completing theses or dissertations. We also consider PhD students if funding permits. The Fund provides financial assistance towards thesis production costs and/or costs involve in presenting a paper at a conference. The second round of applications for 2016 will open later in the year.
